Tara es el aspecto femenino de la mente iluminada. Representa la compasión en acción. En la tradición budista es conocida por su habilidad para eliminar obstáculos y ayudar al éxito de cualquier proyecto. Se dice que su capacidad de ayuda es inigualable. Aquellos que con respeto y fe soliciten ayuda a Tara, tendrán el don de la valentía, destruirán las causas que conducen al sufrimiento y se liberarán de cualquier aflicción.

A Tara Verde se le representa sentada sobre un loto emergiendo de un lago, tal como se dice que ella emergió de las lágrimas de Avalokiteshvara, el Buda de la compasión. Su color como su nombre lo indica es el verde. Su mano derecha hace el "mudra del dar" indicando su habilidad para dar a todos los seres lo que necesitan, mientras su mano izquierda colocada en su corazón hace el "mudra de dar refugio". En cada mano sostiene el tallo de una flor de loto con una flor abierta y dos botones que indican el alcance de su actividad en el pasado, el presente y el futuro.

Está ataviada con las ropas de la realeza, unas medias multicolores, una blusa y ornamentada con joyas. Lleva una tiara con joyas y un rubí al centro que simboliza a Amitabha, su padre espiritual y cabeza de la familia búdica del loto. La pierna izquierda encogida sobre el loto indica su renuncia a las pasiones mundanas, la pierna derecha extendida y saliendo de esta flor es su presteza para acudir en ayuda de todos los seres.

Tara is the female aspect of the enlightened mind and represents ‘compassion in action’. In the Buddhist tradition she is known for her ability to eliminate obstacles and bring success in any project. They say that her ability to help is incomparable. Those who with respect and faith pray for help to Tara will have bravery, destroy the causes that lead to suffering and be free from any harm.

Green Tara is represented sitting on a lotus blossoming from a lake, which is said to have emerged from the tears of Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of compassion. She is green in colour as her name suggests and her right hand is in the ‘mudra of giving’ which shows her ability to give whatever is needed by sentient beings. Her left hand is at the level of the heart in the ‘mudra of giving refuge’. In each hand she holds the stem of an open lotus flower with two blossoms, showing that her activity has no limits.

Tara is wearing multi coloured  clothes like those of noble-beings and is adorned with jewels. On her head is a crown encrusted with jewels and at the center is a large ruby which symbolizes Amitabha, her spiritual father and head of the lotus family of Buddhas. Her left leg is bent inwards, indicating her renunciation of worldly passions. Her right leg is out stretched and rests on a lotus flower showing her skill in acting on behalf of sentient beings.
